Marathons - Chicago Marathon 2009

Samuel (Sammy) Wanjiro from Kenya won the Chicago Marathon this year and managed to break a 10 year old American record. He completed the marathon in 2 hours, 5 minutes and 41 seconds. (2:05:41)I wonder how great he must feel now...after he's topped up at least. On top of the world, I bet. Don't you? Running alone can make you feel great...but running and beating a record like that?! Here he is:

Imagine, your chest pounding, blood beating in your ears *thump thump*, people cheering and roaring as you race past them, holding on...just a few seconds more, just a few seconds more. Then they announce you just set a new record. Heck, you might even be able to gather up enough energy to jump up and down even after all that!

Seriously though, running is great. It is one of the most natural forms of exercise available, and burns fat -fast-. It sends endorphins through your body giving you a completely natural high. The movement gets the intestines active, constipation be gone. You actually get the energy to go about your day and get stuff done faster...who doesn't want more time in their day? Exercise is a great way to use time where you actually aren't losing it like in many other things...and might even 'get more'. Sounds screwed up doesn't it? But ask any person who regularly runs. They'll you it's true!

I love running, and always have. I often go out to the parks and run around barefoot. There's something about barefoot on the earth that just feels different - better - than with shoes. The damp dew often makes me a bit chilly, but hey, that just makes me move more. :) How about you? I hope you enjoy running occasionally too. If not, maybe you can remember back to enjoying it when you were a kid? Giggling and running from the girls who were playing 'kiss the boys' (well, I actually never thought girls had kooties...but I had to -pretend- to run so they could still have fun when they caught me - 'against my will' ;) )

While looking up the results, I found this cool site that offers a 5 day marathon course for -free.- Think it could have something useful in it? So far looks good on my end, but we'll see. Check it out for yourself. :)
